ABSTRACT
The effect of fragrant
citronella oil to cacao pod sucker (Helopeltis
sp.) attact and its natural enemies was conducted in cacao production center in
Padang Pariaman district fron Juni to Oktaber 2009. The aim of this research is
to know the effect of fragrant citronella oil as botanical insecticide to cacao
pod sucker pest. Cacao pod sucker is one major pest in cacao plantation in West
Sumatera. This insect as a cosmopolite pest,
almost in all plantation cacao was found and attact of cacao pod and its
attact indicating increased from year to year. This research was used +
1 hectare cacao plantation (age >5 years). Aplication of fragrant citronella oil used three dosages level which 2, 3 and 4 cc/l water
and one treatment as control. Two kind observation was done which attact level and attact intensity of cacao pod sucker. The result, attact level of
cacao pod sucker relatively hight reach
100% in control treatment. Three level
dosages of fragrant citronella oil was decreased of attact level and attact intensity of pod sucker
significantly. The are two kind of natural enemies was found which predator
consist of ant and spider, and one kind of parasitoid insect. In general,
application of fragrant citronella oil as a botanical insecticide could be used
as one component in IPM consep to control of cacao pod pest.
